Opie, Andy Griffith, and the Fonz are back! This IS a political video created by Ron Howard, but it’s worth a look for the nostalgia factor. There is a very short ad at the beginning of this version, but it’s the only one I could figure out how to embed.
Apparently that video is no longer available on YouTube. Instead, see Ron Howard’s 40 year old Opie at Huffington Post. Thanks for the heads up, Theresa!

Happily, boredom is a rare occurrence around here, but if I find myself wondering what to do with the kids, I’ll head on over to An Unpink Life to check through the list of 150+ Ideas for Summer.
If you’re feeling like organizing a neighborhood (or family) fun day, you might want to stop by my Great Solutions blog to read this post.
Book lovers will want to note that Jen Robinson is giving away five copies of The Adoration of Jenna Fox. You have until June 24 to enter.
When it gets to hot to head outside, get crafty with these little dolls. I’m usually not big on crafts from kits (I prefer crafts from recycled or found items myself), but these little ladies just tickle me.
And while saving money might not sound like fun step on over to my friend Teri’s blog, Family Money, where you’ll appreciate the common sense and easy to understand financial advice.
Ooh. And one more. My friend Patti is asking what YOUR favorite childhood candy was. Go on over and reminisce! It’s a calorie free candy trip.

How many times have you read a book set in a different land or in days gone by and wondered at the foods that were mentioned? Turkish Delight? Who really has ever actually tried that?
This is what makes ‘Cherry Cake and Ginger Beer‘ utterly brilliant! A cookbook filled with recipes for the treats we read about in children’s literature. You KNOW this book would get a workout in my family, with my little chef. What a great way to bring a story to life! Author Jane Brocket is in the UK, and that’s where the book will be published. I suppose we can hope that it’s such a hit that North American audiences will have a shot at it, too.

Robin and GB over at Martinzoo are going colonial and their latest project is one from Great Colonial America Projects - building a miniature wattle and daub house. Robin has great photos of the entire process (including a minor injury), but no matter how cool it looks, she says that GB is too disgusted to be a colonial kid.

I happened across the blog of a crafter in Ireland who showcases a very cool living willow house sculpture that someone presented to her children last year. Now, it might not be practical for everyone, but during this holiday season when people are concerned about product safety and cutting back on spending, not to mention the environmental impact of the holidays, I think this is just an awesome reminder that alternatives can work!

Remember when I posted about Holli Conger’s Pumpkin Junkin’ contest?? I found out this morning that I actually WON. How beyond cool is that? And remember when I said that I loved Holli’s artwork?? Now I’ll have a piece of my very own! Yay! Thanks, Holli!

I’m very late with this drawing, but I just dropped all of the names for this contest into a hat and pulled out…Kate Messner! Well, not the actual Kate (which I suppose would have been fun and definitely a challenge to explain to my family), but her name. Kate, I’ll be in contact with you directly, and congratulations!
