		<description>Hmm, reading JoVE's comments reminds me of when my brother married his wife, a Chinese woman. My mother said (not to me) "I hope they don't have kids - it'll be hard for them if they do." I had no idea what she was talking about.</description>

		<description>It is good to remember how recent this is. Sometimes we are so anxious to get somewhere that we don't even notice how far we've come.

The town I lived in as a teenager had most of its black population in one area. I think there were maybe 3 (middle-class) black families that lived in other parts of town. And one was a mixed-race couple and boy did that raise eyebrows. The high-school biology teacher was black and I remember other kids my age saying that they wouldn't take biology because she was black.</description>

		<description>Things have changed tremendously in a relatively short period of time. When I was in elementary school (we're the same age??) integration was fairly new in N.C. and black and white children mostly played and ate lunch separately.</description>
