Another book to ban?

Via COD, I found and read the fabulous letter from a librarian to a patron who complained about the content of Uncle Bobby’s Wedding. As you might guess, Uncle Bobby is gay. I firmly believe in the right of parents to determine what books their kids read (though I don’t censor, myself). I also firmly believe that those parents or persnickety library patrons DON’T have a right to limit the books available to my family. Bravo, Jamie Larue!

Oh, these people need to get a life. Can you imagine if the same library tried to take a children’s Bible storybook off the shelves? They’d be the first to site “free speech.” For heaven’s sake, worry about what your own kids are reading, and let the rest of us parents make that decision for ourselves. Sheesh.

Thanks for pointing that out. The librarian’s response is excellent. I particularly liked the inclusion of specific examples of paraents who had requested books for children with gay themes to help them discuss these issues with their young children. Too often, that need gets forgotten.
