An Observation

When we left California three years ago we got rid of a ton of stuff. We purged. It felt great. What we decided to keep, we stored in a container on our property.

After living for three years in a relatively minimalist style, I am utterly shocked at some of the things that we opted to keep AFTER purging. Why so many bowls? FIVE cookie sheets? Enough bath towels to dry an elephant? Puh-leese! Time to purge again.

Keep it up! I add *so* little to our physical stock of possessions, yet at intervals I *keep* finding new bushels of stuff to purge out.

My current challenges: the bookcases and my backlog of writing drafts. After that: the closets, the garage, and the garden shed. On the one hand, I don’t look forward to the work of sifting, but on the other, I *love* the feeling of chucking the cruft!

Five cookie sheets are so you can bake five dozen cookies at the same time … enough bath towels to dry an elephant are for when your kids get into mud/water numerous times throughout the day and you don’t want to run out of linen (oh, wait, maybe that’s just for the preschool set like one of mine :) ), so many bowls are for when you have a party to welcome yourselves home and we all come over expecting ice cream. :) :) :)

On the other hand, I just eliminated a bag of clothing, two (yes two) old printers and a decrepit monitor and BOY did that feel good! Honestly I think stuff breeds in the closets when we are asleep.

Time for a yard sale! :D

I know what you mean tho - I’m getting around to looking in boxes we moved over last year that are still unpacked. Moslty I just sit there muttering “what was I THINKING???”
