Allow me to Grumble

This just in:

“Perhaps we should explain what PVC pipe is.”

Dear person who is editing my book:

Are you serious?

###

Dear blog visitors:

If you do NOT know what PVC pipe is, would you please be brave enough to comment? If there truly is a lack of knowledge about PVC pipe in the world, by all means we need to explain it. But I’m thinking that wasting words on a description of PVC pipe would be as ridiculous as explaining what a tire is.

I’m with you, Kris. Who DOESN’T know what PVC pipe is? I’ll be very surprised if anyone comments here that they don’t know what it is.

And what IS glue, anyway?

I agree, Kris, I think most people, especially those picking up a super-cool book of activities, already know what PVC pipe is.

LOL And just how would you explain what a PVC pipe is other than go to the home improvement store and ask them to show you where the PVC pipe is? I think I’ve known what a PVC pipe was since I was 6 and helping my dad around the house.

Okay everyone — get ready — I will be the FIRST to admit - after doing a Google search - I now know what a PVC pipe is. In this world of acronyms (not sure if PVC is an acronym for anything) PVC could mean anything to anyone who knows nothing about pipes. imho. Be nice, please.

Andrea, THAT picture says it all and yes I am shamed. Guess what lesson my kids will have tonight? Yep? My new PVC channel…coming soon.

Okay, everyone. Kudos to Amy for coming clean! As someone who has given her kids lengths of pvc to build with since they could walk, I am surprised that there might be people who don’t know about it. But glad to know that my editor guy isn’t the only one who thinks it should be spelled out. Andrea, I totally agree - a picture (or sketch) in this case seems much more feasible than a description (”it’s a hard, white plastic pipe…”). We’ll see what they say. Sometimes incorporating editorial suggestions tests my patience!

Out side of the US, this may not be a common term. I know people who do DI with me here ask what it is also.

Go Amy! Living in a family with 4 male types who like to build things, PVC is a household word for me. Funny the assumptions we make. I like the idea of having a picture rather than a description.
