We (mostly) gave up eating beef a couple of years ago. Don’t miss it much, although every so often I get a HUGE craving for meatloaf or a burger.

Ron grew up on a small beef farm, so steak is not his idea of a good time. :D

Andrea, we don’t eat a whole lot of beef either, though I’ve tracked down a local grower who has great beef without the excess “stuff”. I have concerns about supermarket poultry as well. I get very perturbed when I think about our food sources. I would really like to be able to raise my own beef and chickens, so it’s something we’ll be working towards in the next couple of years.

We have a small (well, by Alberta standards) organic farm, raising our own cattle for beef and chickens for meat and eggs. We buy pork from farm friends, too. I’m always happy when articles like the one you mention, and books like last year’s “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle”, “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” the year before, “Fast Food Nation” etc. spread the word about what’s in the food some of us eat.
