Career Day

Kids are funny. Being a book author is NOT very impressive to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. However, having your NAME on the cover of a book is decidedly more impressive.

Here are just a few of the questions I was asked today:

- Do you know what was Shakespeare’s first book? (asked by a very serious student who was slightly disappointed that I didn’t know the answer)

- How did they make jewelry during ancient times? (asked by a group of four very hip, bejeweled girls)

-  Are you … famous?

- Do you know where the free bags are?

- Do  you have anything I can have?

Note to self: next time bring either free stuff, ride in on a fire truck, or bring a dog like to police department did.

Hahaha! So … have you found out the answer to the Shakespeare question? :) And you are still MY hero, even if your fame escaped the young ones! I really like when I see an article in a magazine with your name on it … “see that? She’s a friend of mine!” :)

Did you “show” and “tell” about your pile of hair being tools of the trade? :)

I’m back to tag you for A Book Meme.

There is nothing so demoralizing as being at the head of a class on career day and every kid looks bored stiff!
Been there during my hair salon ownership days. Ugh, I dreaded the phone calls from the schools asking me to come. But I always did.
And free stuff always helps to smooth the way! :-)

I l-o-v-e the questions that seem to come from who-knows-where. But valid questions nonetheless. What WAS Shakespeare’s first book anyway? One that he read? One that he wrote?

I hope that you told them that indeed you are famous. You’re on the internet.

Also did Shakespeare even write any books? You could have said, “He never wrote books. He wrote plays.” That would have shown that kid! (But maybe I’m wrong and the smart kid can show me!)
