Sushi

We spent the weekend away at another music event where my future chef learned how to make chili, smoke meat, stir fry, and roll sushi.

But what about the music you ask? I’ll let my in-house music man tell you about that.

Hula, music, history, and stories blended to create a weekend-long cultural event that I couldn’t recreate if I tried. No wonder the boys are both hopeful to attend the week-long event in November.

Some people are just so NICE!

Alison over at Shelftalker wins the award for making my Monday bright. And I don’t even KNOW this woman! I don’t dare spill the beans about just how she was nice to me, because then you’d all be clamoring for a piece of her niceness. But really. I think she’s pretty cool.

My list of reasons to visit Massachusetts has just grown a bit longer.

R.I.P. Lloyd Alexander

I just read that Lloyd Alexander, author of The Prydain Chronicles and numerous other fabulous books, died today. In a love-story type ending, he died two weeks after his wife of 62 years. May they rest in peace together.

I hope this man knew just how much he touched the lives of so many - young and old.

Blog Nod: Book Moot

If you happen to be in Honolulu this Weekend…

Oh, don’t laugh. I actually get a fair number of visitors to this blog from Honolulu. I wonder what they are looking for?

Really. If you’re in Honolulu, make sure to stop by the Hawaii Book and Music Festival this weekend. I really wanted to go. Some of the members of SCBWI Hawaii will be there signing books. And Lisa Yee, author of So Totally Emily Ebers (and several others) will be there, also presumably signing books. Instead of being there, surrounded by books and music and fabulous authors, I’ll be attending another one of these events. Good fun, but choosing between the two was painful.

Have a Favorite Indie?

With the big box bookstores and online booksellers taking such a big piece of the book selling pie, independent booksellers have to work doubly hard to make it. If you support your local indie, you might want to nominate the store for this award. They’ll thank you if they win!

Snoopy Dance!

I ran across Jacket Flap yesterday, a site that brings all kinds of book people together. In checking it out, I discovered that both of my publishers were listed. The top selling books (based on Amazon sales) for both of my publishers are mine!! How cool is that?  At the moment, Team Challenges is the top seller for Zephyr Press and Great Colonial America Projects You Can Build Yourself is tops for Nomad Press. If you’ve purchased either of these books, just let me say a resounding thank you - you rock!

An interview with….Me!

Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about me, right here.

The 72nd Carnival of Homeschooling…

…Is  in my neighborhood this week. Well, maybe not neighborhood, but nearer than most carnivals. Palmtree Pundit, a couple of islands away, hosts the carnival this week.
