Must Have Thanksgiving Dish?

I polled the kids last night before heading out to do my Thanksgiving Day shopping this morning; I wanted to make sure I didn’t skip anything that was crucial to their Thanksgiving meal. Wanna know what they consider to be a “must have” side dish? Cranberry sauce. Jellied. Out of the can.

For me? Stuffing. Absolutely. I make it with sausage and giblets (the only good use for a giblet, IMO) and sometimes nuts.
What about you? What’s your must have Thanksgiving side dish?

Oh that is sooooo funny. In my family, somehow the majority of THEM feel the same way about the canned cranberry sauce (and heaven forbid you would mix it up and put it in a bowl, it better be slid out of the can onto a little serving plate). Personally, I can’t stand the stuff, and if I ever had the luxury of having my own family traditions (i.e., a Thanksgiving at my house with no extended family around), you can bet we will NOT be serving it!

My absolute favorite Thanksgiving dish is the whipped sweet potato recipe from Epicurious (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/4668). It is to die for. And in fact, you might die from eating it given the ingredients! :)

Happy Thanksgiving my far away friend!

Scalloped corn…definately scalloped corn!

See now, sweet potatoes are on my yuck list! Of course, my family only prepared them with mini marshmallows on top, which is just disgusting to me. Maybe I should stretch a little and try that epicurious recipe.

I daresay, I’ve not ever had scalloped corn.

The weird thing about these potatoes is that it is like eating pie. I generally cut down the sugar and butter by about 1/4, and use a mix of brown and white sugars in the potatoes, it is still yummy. The TOPPING Is what makes these potatoes so good. I first made them for the cranberry-loving family about 4 years ago and they request them every year now.

Scalloped corn sounds interesting. Recipe???
